  • Stranger Danger Awareness

    Tue 30 Jan 2018

This week in worship we have discussed the importance of personal safety whilst developing independence. Please reinforce these messages with your children, particularly if they walk to and from school, and remind them of the importance of telling an adult that they trust if they are concerned about anything.

  • Parent drop-in - thank you!

    Tue 30 Jan 2018

Thank you to the five parents who popped in to talk to me this afternoon. It was good to get your views on things and address a few individual concerns.

I will hold another session next half term and advise a date in the newsletter.

However, if you have any queries in the meantime, please see your child's class teacher, phase leader or catch me on the gate.

  • Update from Marvellous Me - now fixed!

    Thu 25 Jan 2018

We received this from MM last night:

"We are sorry for the glitch today.

The notification service that we use sent blank alerts to parents for a brief time just before lunch (Wed). When parents tapped on these, they would show nothing. We quickly put the site into maintenance mode, to investigate and remedy the issue, which meant that users could not access their accounts.

To reassure you and parents, there was no data breach at all and it was purely down to a technical error.

The system has been up and running since this afternoon, but we have restricted the notifications alerts for further testing, and these will come back to normal during the day tomorrow (Thurs).

In respect of any parent queries:

    1. If parents ask what happened?
Please explain that there was technical glitch with MarvellousMe and that the service will be back to normal during the day. They will not have lost any of their history etc.

    2. If any parents ask for a join code again to log in?
If a parent has already joined up to MarvellousMe, they do not need to join up again, so won't need it. They should open the app, or re-install it, and log in with their email and password.

    3. If any parents have lost their password, or can't remember their email?
They can easily use the reset password link, which they will see when they try to log in. Or please ask them to contact us through our help centre at www.marvellousme.com and we will assist them directly.

Once again, we're sorry that this happened and thank you for your support.

  • Feeling blue? Tips for fighting the Blue Monnday blues

    Mon 15 Jan 2018

It is Blue Monday, supposedly the most depressing day of the year.

It may be useful to know that Blue Monday was in fact created in 2005 by a British holiday company. The idea was derived not from the results of any in-depth research, but instead by using a calculation involving such factors as current weather conditions and debt levels. However, while it had no basis in science, the idea caught on, and now many of us have come to dread it. [From the Telegraph]

Here are some websites with hints and tips to 'pick-you-up' if you are feeling blue.

  • Christmas over...? Don't forget Epiphany & Candlemas!

    Fri 05 Jan 2018

You may be taking your decorations down on Twelfth Night (5 Jan), commercially it may be over and the lights may be coming down (or being blown down!) in your street, but did you know that the festival of Christmas actually continues until 2 February?

6 January is the feast of Epiphany

The Epiphany is an ancient Christian feast day and is significant in a number of ways. The Western Church began celebrating the Epiphany in the 4th century where it was, and still is, associated with the visit of the magi (wise men) to the infant Jesus when God revealed himself to the world through the incarnation of Jesus. According to Matthew 2:11 they offered him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

2 February is Candlemas - the end of the season of Christmas

"Candlemas commemorates the ritual purification of Mary, 40 days after the birth of her son Jesus. This day also marks the ritual presentation of the baby Jesus to God in the Temple at Jerusalem.

The Gospel of Luke says that Jesus was met by Anna and Simeon. Simeon held the baby Jesus and called him a Light to the World.

Ritual purification stems back to a Jewish tradition that women were considered unclean after the birth of a child. For 40 days for a boy, and 60 days for a girl, women weren't allowed to worship in the temple. At the end of this time, women were brought to the Temple or Synagogue to be purified. After the ceremony women were allowed to take part in religious services again.

The festival is called Candlemas because this was the day that all the Church's candles for the year were blessed. On Candlemas night, many people place lighted candles in their windows at home.

Like some other Christian festivals, Candlemas draws some of its elements from Paganism. In pre-Christian times, it was the festival of light. This ancient festival marked the mid point of winter, half way between the winter solstice (shortest day) and the spring equinox.

Any Christmas decorations not taken down by Twelfth Night (January 5th) should be left up until Candlemas Day and then taken down."
