  • Our Easter Garden

    Wed 28 Mar 2018

In worship last week, we made an Easter garden.

The three crosses on the hill of Golgotha represent the two robbers either side of Jesus. The tomb, ready for Jesus' body can be seen too.

We planted grass seed on the hill and are delighted that it has begun to grow :-)

Maybe you would like to have a go at making your own Easter garden over the holiday - we'd love to see your pictures.

    Happy Easter everyone.

  • New School Uniform

    Fri 23 Mar 2018

On 22/3/18, Governors agreed final details for our revised school uniform:

We will be moving to a new grey jumper and cardigan, with a yellow piping on the V-neck, as well as black trousers and skirts, with an optional grey blazer for children in Year 3-6.

For PE kit, we will move to a short-sleeved, green polo shirt for both indoor and outdoor PE, with short black socks.

These new items, with logos, will shortly be available from our uniform supplier, CJI.

We will phase the new uniform into circulation over the next term and following academic year, with a view to all children being dressed in the new uniform from September 2019.

During the transition period, whilst stocks last, CJI will be offering the current uniform items at a discounted rate.

  • Ofsted Inspection Report Published

    Tue 20 Mar 2018

We are delighted to share the report of the OFSTED inspection which was carried out on 1 March 2018.

We continue to be judged as a GOOD school.

The full report letter is published here on the school website and will shortly be available on the OFSTED website.

There are a number of highlights in the letter but key findings the inspector notes are that we have maintained the good quality of education in the school since the last inspection and continued to develop the good quality of teaching and learning since the school converted to become an academy. She identified a strong culture of safeguarding in the school and pupils who are keen learners that work diligently in their lessons. We are immensely proud of our hardworking children who continue to make the most of the wide variety of opportunities they are offered.

High quality teaching and learning would not be possible without a dedicated and caring staff, who work diligently to value and develop each child’s individual skills and abilities. I am sure you will join me in thanking them for all their hard work.

We would like to thank our parent community who support us and the children so well. We very much appreciate and value all of your comments and feedback. Thanks also to our Governors who work to ensure a high quality of provision for all.

The inspector agreed with the next steps which we have already identified and begun working on: reading and writing in Key Stage 1 as well as spelling and writing in Key Stage 2. She also advised us to refine our improvement planning, to help achieve these aims.

Although we are not now due another OFSTED inspection for three years, we will receive our Statutory Inspection for Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS) on 22 March 2018, which is carried out every five years.

Finally, I would like to reiterate how proud we are of the whole St Mark’s Church of England Primary School community. It is a unique, caring and very special place where children are nurtured to thrive.

  • Animal Mufti

    Fri 16 Mar 2018

Well done to everyone who dressed in animal mufti today.

We raised a fantastic £330! Thank you!

School Council will now decide which charity to donate this to, as Woofability have ceased their work.

  • Snow closure (updated)

    Thu 01 Mar 2018

As at 06:55, Thursday 1st March:

We are planning to stay open as usual today.

We will continue to monitor the weather and safety situation and keep this decision under review during the day. Should the weather deteriorate further and we are forced to close, parents will be notified.

    Thank you.

At Midday, the following statement was made to update:

Having carefully considered the weather forecast, we have taken the decision that children will be able to leave school today from 1.30pm onwards. We will wait with them in the hall and release them to parents as they arrive. Please do not worry if you are not able to be here for 1.30pm but the school will close completely at 3pm and there will be no After School Club today. Because of the Met Office amber weather warning, school will be closed on Friday 2 March to ensure safety for all.
