  • Big Pedal fortnight update

    Tue 26 Apr 2016

Big Pedal fortnight started and on Monday we had over 100 children who scooted or cycled to school!

Every journey to school by pupils, parents and staff on bikes or scooters counts towards our ranking against other schools locally and nationally. Journeys by bike also help towards our Bike It challenge.

If you want to check out our position as the Big Pedal progresses, you can visit the Big Pedal website.

As of Monday morning 25/4/16, these were the results:

    National

    position

    School Name Location Daily score
50 St Katharine's Church of England Primary School Southbourne, Bournemouth Map 58.62%
200 St Mark's Church of England Aided Primary School Bournemouth, Dorset Map 41.00%
413 St Luke's Church of England Primary School Winton, Bournemouth Map 30.60%

The more journeys, the more points we get and the more chances we have of winning our group for some fantastic prizes.

Thank you for all your support.

  • We're all running!

    Wed 13 Apr 2016

You may have seen recent news coverage of the 'Run a mile' initiative and the positive impacts which it is having on children in Scotland. At St Mark's we are always keen to find ways to get outside and enjoy our beautiful surroundings as well as finding new ways to be fit and active - Run a mile seemed like just the thing for us!

This week we have begun taking a ten minute exercise break , at a time to best fit with each class (it may be a different time each day). Children will be encouraged to take a steady jog, to go as many times around the field as they can in the time.

The regular exercise will have a longer-term positive impact on cardiovascular fitness and short-term benefits of increasing oxygenated blood flow to the brain, to help improve thinking.
