  • SIAMS say we are OUTSTANDING!

    Tue 17 Apr 2018

We are thrilled to share the report of the Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS) which was carried out on 22 March 2018. This is sometimes known as a Church schools inspection, or a Section 48 inspection which all schools with a religious character must receive, in addition to Ofsted.

The inspection focused on four core questions:

How well does the school, through its distinctive Christian character, meet the needs of all learners?

What is the impact of collective worship on the school community?

How effective is the Religious Education? (in VA schools and academies)

How effective are the leadership and management of the school as a Church school?

Overall, we have been judged as an OUTSTANDING church school. We are delighted to have upheld this grade for a fourth consecutive inspection. This is a fantastic achievement and shows the effort and commitment of everyone involved in the life of the school.

The report commented on the outstanding distinctive Christian character of the school and how our values are central to all aspects of school life. With a slightly different focus to Ofsted, it was pleasing that the inspection picked up on the outstanding quality of care given to children and for the importance placed on wellbeing. The report noted that: ‘the school is highly inclusive and attendance is high’ and that ‘nurture is a particularly strong feature’. There are many highlights like this but our links with St Mark’s Church were a particular area of note in the report. We would like to thank Rupert, Asa, Alex and everyone involved through the church for their support and care.

There were many positive comments about the quality of leadership and teaching of Religious Education and how this is similar to other core subjects. Our thanks to Mrs Harley, who leads the subject and to all those involved in delivering high quality RE teaching in school.

Finally, well done to the children for living out our vision of Achievement, respect and care in a happy, Christian community. We are planning an event for the children, to celebrate this fantastic outcome.

The full report letter is published on the school website.

Thank you for your continued support.
